At first, it wasn't clear how to get water in that hole, but you have to press the button. It's mentioned on the product page. Makes me wish there was an even bigger option, but my Akita puppy loves it. When he keeps drinking, you just press the button and he will empty the entire bottle. Wish the food compartment would stick inside that piece better, but it's good enough. Now that it's super hot, I'm always carrying the bottle with me and can definitely recommend. Got 3 so I could give 2 to people that will babysit my dog occasionally. Allows them to take him with them to places.
